is that a witch in your yard? October 27, 2006

Filed under: friends, gbg, library, pittsburgh — sortofcrafty @ 4:18 pm

has anyone else noticed the huge increase in the numbers of witches people are incorporating into their halloween displays? i see witches everywhere, i mean those ones that have “flown” into the side of the house, or a sign and they are all smashed into whatever they have “hit”. i’ll stop now.

it was an interesting day today, i had my first phone interview for a real jobby job. it went ok, pretty fast, i think i may get an in-person. it’s for a type of library i wouldn’t have normally applied to, but i did, out of curiousity, and who knows what will happen. i guess you never know, right?

it was a typical week. met heather last night and we planned the pirate birthday party. oops did i give away the theme? i think it’ll be fun. i just hope people actually come, i don’t know.

i did just about nothing in the way of homework today, i just did resumes and cover letters. i wish i had a personal assistant to do that stuff for me.

trader joes finally opened today, i am totally going to stop by next monday after work. rock. i cannot wait.

i think there may be a party to go to tomorrow night, but who knows. i hate hate hate going out on halloween weekend, just like st. patrick’s weekend. it’s a such an amatuer weekend and people end up so drunk and annoying. i hate public drunks, stay home!!!

guess that’s all, i have lots to think about and to keep my mind occupied with this weekend.

wilco, sure it was a bumpy ride pre-show (svc said that it was at the request of wilco that no purses, bags were allowed in to the show and that’s why we had to walk back to the car to ditch our stuff… hm) and sure people were not standing up, and there were a few people who yelled at the people who stood up at the beginning of the show (picture the concert taking place in a gym, and people in the bleachers are expected to stay seated, always, what?) but wilco was great. towards the end michele and i started to get freaked that there would be no heavy metal drummer for us, but wilco indulged us with the song and we were psyched.

saturday was super hectic, i went to an artsy town meeting thing extravaganza, i had the constant feeling of why was i asked to be here b/c i am not an artist, but i felt like i contributed slightly. i had forgotten, sort of- i never really officially knew the details, about the meeting so i rushed to get there. spent much time doing homework and then headed home to get hussied up for the pumpkin carving party. (i don’t think i actually hussied up, so don’t worry…)

the party was fun. there were some people that i had met a year ago at the last function. they were super friendly and i actually really liked the people who were there. i parked by b and g’s house (i was supposed to go over before, but ended up going over there after since they got free tix for a hockey game) so i walked over and it was seriously anxiety inducing b/c the numbers are so messed up on that street. seriously, it went from 34 to 737. i kid you not. i cannot compute that. i feel bad, i was talking to d on the way over there thinking it wouldn’t be such an ordeal and finally i had to get off the phone to call m and tell him i was lost. as i finally found his number in my phone, i found the house too….

i went over the b and g’s new place after, it was so nice. they have lots of room and space. i am seriously jealous.

i am hoping to get a pumpkin to carve tonight. i have found a simple pattern to do, so i am excited.

there are flurries in the air today. i normally gauge how the winter will be by if it snows by my b-day. this is seriously early. i remember it snowing by halloween, but not too much before….

suddenly everything has changed. October 20, 2006

Filed under: friends, music, pittsburgh, randomness — sortofcrafty @ 1:58 pm

i forget how quickly everything can change, even though i have been expressing my wonderment at change lately, it sometimes takes you by suprise, right?

it’s like that postal service song that someone once put on a mix cd for me.

for about 9 months i have thought that some of the people i was paid to be surrounded by, were nice normal people. then last week, i saw this total boys club mentatlity come out and it made me so angry and sad all at the same time. there are some people that i think of as “not like that”. (please note, it wasn’t like a total frat party mentatlity or anything, just not the way totally non-boys act….) i don’t know. it never bothered me to be the only girl in an environment where football and sports are the monday AM conversations, until now. this all really stems not from the people i thought were good and now have been tainted but really from the people that they let get away with total crap simpy b/c they are guys. there is one person who has this total sense of disrespect for the rules / norms of the place, but no one tells them it’s not cool. i’ll stop now.

since this person doesn’t read my blog, i feel it’s fair to write about it. so i got invited to a pumpkin carving party tomorrow night. i honestly need to get over this, but i get so freaked out when i have to go into an unknown social situation. i have been known to bail. so i said i wanted to go to this person’s party b/c when i do see them, like once a year, i have an awesome time and they’re funny and i have known them since high school. so anyway, i expressed interest in going to their party and immediately thought, damn, i shouldn’t have done that, now i’ll look like a total jerk when i don’t go. but now, i really want to go, and have even realized i could visit bea and g before since they live ONLY A BLOCK AWAY from this person. strangeness i know. so i think i have finally made myself feel like i can go to this party when i might not know anyone and be freaked out, but still have a good time. social anxiety, you’re going down.

tonight is the wilco show, michele and i return to our old stomping grounds. neither of us has been back in a year, and before that i don’t think we had been back since we graduated. it’s pretty amusing since we live so close.

anyway. the good thing about this post is that it made me remember how much i loved the mix cd containing the postal service song. here’s the playlist for those who are interested.

Steadier Footing- Death Cab for Cutie

Calculation Theme- Metric

Breathe Me- Sia (this was before the whole end of six feet under use of this song, I loved this song from the start)

Cleveland [Live]- All time quarterback

One Of Those Days- Athlete

These Things- Looper

Here on In- South

Suddenly Everything Has Changed- the postal service

I’ll Be Here When You Wake- The Reindeer Section

It’s Wasting Me Away- The Electric Soft Parade

Animals and Insects- The Stills

Such Great Heights- Iron and wine

You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go- Mary Lou Lord

Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want- The Smiths

But my heart, it don’t beat, it don’t beat the way it used to. And my eyes, they don’t see you no more. October 14, 2006

i am fighting my first cold of the year by taking as much echinecea and anti-oxidant berry extravaganza.  last night michele, j, j, j, and m and lots of other people went to a comedy club in pgh and then for more drinks after.  good times.  it was good to be out.  what else.  it’s still super bizarre that michele is still here.  not that i want her to leave, right?

i think there will be some crafting going on tonight with h.

ok, back to the homework.

prince in the house October 7, 2006

yesterday was packed full with excitement. i dig the obligatory (yet not so successful) “friday is for homework” thing. reading and daydreaming, not such a good combo. i brought michele up for stitch and bitch. i hope she had a good time. for some reason, pretty much every person i know showed up for snb, even people who don’t knit, so it was a packed house. good times. we and a few of snb’ers headed to red star afterwards, trying to make it for the 10 o’clock food call so we could eat the great pretzel (which i think changed again….) but apparently the end of food there is 11 o’clock. we were not notified of the change. didn’t stay out to late, but the crowd slowly faded out by 12 something. m discussed LA with someone who is heading out in november, and there was a person who looked like they were from the television show deadwood, even though i don’t think anyone in the group watches that show, we still knew. jg and n showed up so that was a plus too. i had a good time. we will miss the next snb, but for good cause, wilco show at the ol’ svc. that will be insane. i can’t wait for that.

oh yeah, and r made me a pair of the cutest slippers, that was nice too. it was a totally calm full moon.

what has everyone else been up to?

edit: the title refers to the fact that they played TWO prince songs at red star last night.
